PS He also has a heart problem we have yet to get the results for...(the echocardiogram he had days ago)....adding to the frustration of it all! It is exactly "teach to the test", that is, the SOL's...the principal even has my husband tutoring students to pass the SOL's 4 extra hours a week (no pay), that is how much the system actually cares about "real learning". He loves teaching, but the Administration and all of their "DumbAss" extra ideas that are worthless and take up so much time are seriously driving him over the edge.tracyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00121763456161256252noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3123819319548998095.post-34441633726443032862013-04-29T01:38:47.185-05:002013-04-29T01:38:47.185-05:00What I have mostly found is that people can state ...What I have mostly found is that people can state their positions when it's an abstract topic, without having an emotional investment in the outcome. However, one the situations becomes real, with actual consequences, then it's not so easy to pick a side --because goals conflict with some other issues. Take for example the surgeon -- what if it was his kids that were not showing potential in school, would he want the education system to just give up on them and just nurture the ones that show potential? Probably not, he would rationalize that they need better teachers, better school system, more time to develop, etc.

On the other the ones that advocate that everyone should have the same chances and opportunities are too idealistic. There's not enough money for everyone to have the same exact experiences.

Your discussion had people taking extremes and what's needed is some kind of compromise, altho that is harder to achieve than strive for.fan of caseynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3123819319548998095.post-41237639385850658972013-04-28T22:46:57.020-05:002013-04-28T22:46:57.020-05:00It will be interesting to see what happens with Co...It will be interesting to see what happens with Common Core.Mikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03866077134601099787noreply@blogger.com
